TEMPLE

July 29th, 2010

*I DON’T KNOW THE ACCURATE STORY SO PLEASE SHINE SOME LIGHT IF YOU DO.

I attended a Vietnamese Temple in Haymarket, Va with my family members.  It was a special occasion with a special guest monk visiting.  This monk personally traveled to Thailand to have this large Buddha constructed out of jade made.

It was the evening time and the only lighting I had was their provided flood lights. -JLP

They say if you take a photograph and you see these circle/spots around.  It represents long life, health etc.

Ring Flash

March 15th, 2010

In college I used to go through professional Photographer’s galleries and study different type of lighting techniques.  One lighting I’ve notice and fell in love with was the RING FLASH.  The Ring flash is basically just a circular light where you stick your camera/lens through the center of it.  It gives a even lighting over the subject.  Beautiful catch lighting and hard or soft shadows.

Back then I built my own ring flash with a 3 ft x 3 ft wooden box with 10 incandescent light bulbs.  Controlling it with adjustable switches.  Results…  well I received an A from my professor. :D

Here is image of the old box;

I recently purchased the  ABR800 from AlienBees ($399.99).  I know there are plenty of professional Ring flashes out there but if you’re on a budget like me this one will do just fine.  I’ve also tested out the PROFOTO PRORING ($900 plus).  Awesome but $$$  I wouldn’t buy it unless you got money to blow.  Both resulted with great flash Temps. and consistency.

DREAM OUT LOUD, WORK HARD, NEVER QUIT.

There is only one thing running through my mind when I am looking through the viewfinder of a camera, evoke an emotion.  I believe that a photograph is more than just an image.  It should have a narrative, capture a moment, but most importantly evoke an emotion.  I know anyone viewing my work will bring something different to the photograph.  I hope that my work will not only be able to tell a story, but inspire those who view it.  I want people to recall memories that they have long forgotten, I want people to make connections that they thought were impossible, I want people to see my vision of the world.
